Temple, TX (FOX 44) -- A local toddler's sudden medical emergency has left his parents shaken, and now they're speaking out to spread awareness.

It all started on an ordinary night for Luka and his father, Jonathan Smart.

"We were playing on his bed, sitting there," Jonathan explained. "He was jumping on my back, would get down on the end of the bed and run around back to the side of the bed, get back on, do the same thing over and over five, six, seven times."

But a playtime mishap would take a dark turn towards something more worrisome.

"When he screamed that day, we would monitor them for the next ten to 15 minutes," Jonathan said. "He stopped crying. He even ate mac and cheese and then started playing baseball again."
