U.S. Navy sailors serve and protect from around the globe, and one of them is Naval Air Crewman 3rd Class Tanner McMurdie, from Peoria.

McMurdie is assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 12. He has participated in search-and-rescue exercises and works aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington currently located in the Philippine Sea.

The USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group is conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. George Washington is the U.S. Navy’s premier forward-deployed aircraft carrier, a long-standing symbol of the United States’ commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region, while operating alongside allies and partners across the U.S. Navy’s largest numbered fleet.
