ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - At 88, Fannie Jackson has seen a lifetime of history unfold — from the signing of the Voting Rights Act to the desegregation of schools in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. And each time she casts her ballot, she said she’s mindful of what it took to get that right.
These days, though, Jackson rarely leaves the house. Voting by mail — with help from her granddaughter, Melissa White — is how she makes sure her voice is still heard.
“I don’t know how I’d feel if I wasn’t able to vote,” White said. “I don’t know.”
