President Donald Trump took control of Washington, D.C., streets to curb crime, calling its homicides, carjackings and juveniles arrestees “out of control.”

Yet Cleveland, like Toledo and Dayton, had a higher crime rate in 2024 than Washington.

No one’s talking about sending National Guard troops here. But Gov. Mike DeWine honored Trump’s request to send troops to the country’s capital, along with Republican-led West Virginia and South Carolina. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is coordinating with governors to authorize additional Guard units as needed.

DeWine said the move is in line with past Guard deployments.
