ST. JOHN — Hundreds of police officers and community members from across the Region on Tuesday paid tribute to Aaron Amptmeyer, the St. John detective and Northwest Regional SWAT Team Commander who died Aug. 8 from an off-duty medical emergency.

Amptmeyer, 44, was playing hockey with friends at Midwest Training and Ice Center when he went unconscious , The Times previously reported. Medics attempted CPR on him until the ambulance arrived at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital in Dyer and for several minutes thereafter, but Amptmeyer never regained consciousness.

On Tuesday, following a funeral service at Faith Church in Dyer, scores of police and emergency response vehicles traveled from the venue to the St. John Police Department to symbolically signify Amptmeyer's final 10-42
