BELMAR, New Jersey -- During what he called "one of the biggest weeks" on the Jersey Shore, Gov. Phil Murphy and some of his emergency managers led a group of mayors and county executives of Jersey Shore communities on Tuesday to tell people to stay out of the ocean this week.

It's happening as Hurricane Erin, hundreds of miles out at sea, churns up the surf all along the Atlantic Ocean coast.

The no-swim order also comes a week after the Jersey Shore had two separate drownings and dozens of beach rescues due to strong rip currents. Those conditions have only become more severe with Erin's offshore activity.
