KEANSBURG, N.J. (PIX11) -- Two children and their mother were rescued as a fire tore through a residential home in Keansburg on Friday morning.
Neighbors rushed to the scene with a ladder, and a police officer was able to climb up and help the children down from the second-floor window, according to fire officials.
The children were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation and evaluation.
Three firefighters pulled their mother from the home, unconscious. Fire officials say she was airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital.
The fire began around 10:13 a.m., according to fire officials.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but fire officials say at first glance, there does not appear to be anything suspicious.
