The city of McKinney is looking at drafting new ordinances focused on the city’s homeless population.
“We are a fast-growth city and along with that comes a population that needs addressing,” said Mayor Bill Cox. “These questions about homeless and the unhoused are not exclusive to McKinney."

The city has been seeking public input on new proposals after hearing concerns from residents and businesses. The topic was expected to be discussed at a council work session on Tuesday.
One proposal targets ‘aggressive panhandling’ and camping in public spaces. Other drafts focus on the downtown district, specifically banning sitting or lying down on sidewalks, streets and alleys.
