ST PAUL, Minnesota — A Minnesota District Court judge on Monday struck down a ban on binary triggers on guns.

Most commonly, binary triggers allow a firearm to shoot one round on the pull of the trigger and a second round as it's released.

Democrats proposed the ban in the aftermath of the killing of three Burnsville first responders in February 2024 where the shooter used a binary trigger, according to investigators.

The provision was included in a 1,400-page tax omnibus bill which lawmakers passed in the final minutes of the 2024 DFL-controlled legislative session.

The Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus filed a lawsuit earlier this year over the ban.
