REHOBOTH, Mass. (WPRI) — A 22-year-old man is expected to face a judge on Wednesday after human remains “consistent” with those of his pregnant girlfriend were discovered at his home.

Gregory Groom, 22, was initially charged with aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant woman, domestic assault and battery and intimidation of a witness.

Investigators believe Groom attacked his girlfriend, 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, on Aug. 6 at his residence on County Street.

After detectives found human remains on the property that are believed to belong to Monteiro, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office said Groom would also be charged with her murder.

Groom first reported Monteiro missing on Aug. 7, and confirmed she was 11 weeks pregnant at the time of her disappearance.
