CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) -- The Cranston City Council's top Republican is raising concerns about special meetings scheduled for Wednesday to modify the contract of the council's lawyer, who's in a romantic relationship with the council president.

Council Minority Leader Richard Campopiano said in a statement Tuesday that Council President Jessica Marino hopes to amend this contact "without even telling the council members or the public what the amendments are or relate to."

It's unclear when Marino and the lawyer, Stephen Angell, became involved. But the situation has been a topic of conversation for weeks in Cranston politics.
