PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee said he needs U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to identify a specific immigration policy the state needs to change before he would consider meeting with the Department of Justice.

Last week, Bondi sent a letter to the state saying that Rhode Island is on the DOJ's "sanctuary" list for having policies that get in the way of federal immigration officers. The letter threatened to withhold federal funding and set a deadline for the state to respond by Tuesday.

"We're not standing in the way of ICE doing their job,'' McKee said Wednesday, speaking with reporters for the first time since the letter was released.

One day past the deadline, McKee said he hasn't responded.

"There's nothing to answer," he added. "It's a very generic letter
