JASPER COUNTY, SC (WSAV) - The Jasper County Schoolboard reversed course on Monday, with a vote that ends its appeal of the state's takeover of the school system.

The Board voted against finding a new lawyer to file the appeal of the South Carolina Superintendent of Education's decision to take control of the day-to-day operations of the school system. That's a reversal from the board's vote last week.

It means the schoolboard has officially been dissolved.

Superintendent Ellen Weaver's decision came in a letter saying the school system was declared to be in a "state of emergency" by the South Carolina Superintendent of Schools.

The State Board of Education voted to take over the operations of the district in late July.
