TWIGGS COUNTY, Ga. — After nearly seven years without updated farm policy, Georgia farmers are cautiously optimistic about a new federal spending bill that addresses mounting financial pressures in agricultural communities across the state.
The 870-page "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," signed into law last month, delivers approximately $66 billion in agricultural investments over the next decade and represents the first major update to farm policy since 2018.
"The 2018 reference prices were outpaced in two years once COVID hit," said Ben Parker, Georgia Farm Bureau Affairs Coordinator. "So within two years, the 2018 reference prices were pretty much outdated and it was supposed to have been good for five years."
Reference prices serve as safety nets for farmers, establishing minimum
