The Federal Emergency Management Agency has authorized the use of federal funds to help with firefighting efforts at Kunia Road.

FEMA said in a news release that the state on Tuesday requested a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) declaration for the Kunia Road Fire.

At the time of the request, the fire was threatening approximately 120 homes in and around Kunia Camp, and mandatory evacuations were taking place for approximately 400 people.

The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call shortly after noon for the wildland fire near Kunia Camp on Kunia Road.

At 2:07 p.m., the incident commander ordered the evacuation of Kunia Camp and Head Start, and officials established Hoaeae Community Park and Waipahu District Park as evacuation areas.
