The Shenandoah County Fairgrounds will roar to life at 6:30 p.m. Sunday as the grandstand hosts the annual modified truck and tractor pull. The goal: to see which heavy-duty vehicle can pull a heavy sled the farthest down the first track.
For one father-son team — Wes and Christian Dellinger of Edinburg — the thrills will come in that eight-to-10 second ride in their tractor, called Shear Pin, as they carry on a family tradition started years ago.
“It’s the smoke that drives the popularity,” said Wes Dellinger. “The noise, the thrill. It’s simple. People won’t tell you, but they want to see fireballs and the destruction of something. It’s like going to NASCAR. It’s the roar of the motor and being that close to the action.”
Beginnings
“Let’s back up about 45 years,” Wes Dellinger said.
