SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A Dallas man previously convicted of armed robbery and attempted rape was found guilty during a retrial, this time by a unanimous jury.
Joseph Martin Bryant, 50, of Dallas, was convicted in 2017 by a non-unanimous jury for the crime committed in late August 2024. In 2020, while his appeal was ongoing, the U.S. Supreme Court issued the Ramos v. Louisiana ruling that criminal cases required a unanimous jury verdict. Before Ramos, Louisiana only needed 10 members of the jury to agree on a guilty verdict for convictions.
