PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Gov. Dan McKee is holding a ceremonial bill-signing Friday afternoon for six pieces of housing legislation.

The bills are intended to help address the state's housing crisis.

Some of the bills came from this year's legislative package spearheaded by House Speaker Joe Shekarchi, who will also be at the event.

Other sponsors of the bills will be in attendance as well, along with Providence Mayor Brett Smiley and Housing Secretary Deborah Goddard.

Below are each piece of legislation and a summary of what they do. • H5803Aaa/S1087 will expand the use of electronic permitting. It also mandates that the state’s Department of Environmental Management, Coastal Resources Management Council and Department of Transportation to use electronic permitting by next October.
