GRAHAM, N.C. — The man accused of fatally shooting his stepson in the stomach on Poplar Street made his first appearance in Alamance County District Court Thursday afternoon.

WFMY News 2 was at the first court appearance and learned that James Thomas Daye, 59, is being held without bond following the hearing. His next appearance is scheduled for Sept. 11 in Courtroom A.

Daye was given a court-appointed attorney during the session, where a family member was present but declined to speak with reporters.

Daye faces charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. According to court proceedings, he allegedly used a 12-gauge shotgun in the shooting.
