Colorado high school students must now complete a personal finance course to graduate. This new law, enacted in May, affects students graduating after the 2027-2028 school year. Prior to this, only about 25% of Colorado districts mandated finance courses, with Denver Public Schools implementing the requirement in 2022. Students at Thomas Jefferson High School are exploring financial topics like investing and interest.

Finance instructor Jason Klimczak engages students with questions about investing and financial growth. He teaches practical skills such as managing checking and savings accounts, understanding interest rates and credit scores, and navigating taxes and insurance. Klimczak describes the course as an “adulting 101 class,” empowering students with essential financial knowledge.
