'Don't steal from the church': Man caught on camera stealing multiple trash cans from a Chesapeake church

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — The oldest church in Chesapeake says it was the target of a trash can thief last month.

The Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church shared security camera footage with 10 On Your Side that shows the theft when it took place July 26.

In the video, a man could be seen in a white pick-up truck with a trailer driving into the parking lot of the church and backing up to the area the trash cans were lined up.

"My initial reaction was blown away, trying to figure out why, why trash cans," said Rev. Johnny Henderson, senior pastor at Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church. "My message is simple: don't steal from the church."

Henderson said he’s still in disbelief that someone would steal something from a church, especially if that something literally just holds trash.
