Active shooter reported at University of South Carolina library

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WJBF)- The University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus is reporting an active shooter at Thomas Cooper Library.

The suspect is reported as a white male with black pants, approximately 6 feet tall and still in the area. Everyone is asked to avoid the area and evacuate or seek safe shelter and barricade in a safe area as necessary until further notice.

Campus police suggests that people should defend themselves if they encounter the suspect and obey public safety officials' commands.

Public safety officials are on the scene.
