Lincoln Charter football’s Jeremiah Benton and Highland Tech volleyball standout Lilly Coletta were voted The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star Week 1 boys and girls athlete of the week, respectively.

A senior skill player for Lincoln Charter, Benton ran for three touchdowns in the Eagles’ 50-6 win over Highland Tech. It was the first win for Lincoln Charter in program history.

As for Coletta, she finished with 30 assists and 14 digs last week, helping Highland Tech to wins over East Gaston and Shelby. The Rams are off to a 5-1 start this fall.
