LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Welcome to Game Week. Finally.
The first college football game week press conference isn’t all that different from the first day of school.
You show up early. You sit in one of those little desk chairs with a fold out desktop. You’ve got your notebook. And whether you're ready or not, you’ve got an essay due at the end of it.
At least, I do.
My first one as the University of Louisville beat writer came on August 28, 2000, in the recruiting lounge at Cardinal Stadium. Louisville was preparing to open the season against Kentucky. John L. Smith was the head coach.
He walked into the room and started signing the theme from the movie, Rawhide .
“Rollin', rollin', rollin' . . . “
Then he turned philosophical.
“It’s time to find out if we’re any good,” he said.
