VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY)-- A Virginia Beach Police officer faces charges following a Friday night incident.

According to police, officers were called to the 1500 block of Snowbird Court at 8:34 p.m. for the report of an assault. When officers arrived on scene and conducted an investigation, they arrested 31-year-old Michaelena Scanniello.

She is charged with misdemeanor assault and public intoxication.

Scanniello has been employed as a Police Officer with VBPD since Jan. 28, 2021. She has been placed on administrative duty and her police powers have been suspended.

This incident is still under investigation.
