MENTOR, Ohio — A woman who was rescued after going under the water while paddleboarding at Headlands Beach State Park in Mentor on Sunday has died, authorities said.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said officers were called to the park at about 4:53 p.m. after reports that a paddleboarder had gone under the water outside the designated swimming area.

The person was pulled from the water and taken to a hospital for treatment, officials said. The victim died Monday morning.

The Lake County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as Ellen Baker. Her death remains under investigation.

The City of Cleveland released the following statement to 3News, identifying Baker as an employee.
