PIMA COUNTY, Ariz. — The former sheriff of Pima County is advising Arizona residents to be extra aware of their surroundings after he recently sustained a rattlesnake bite to his hand.
Mark Napier, who served as sheriff from 2017 to 2021, revealed on his social media page that he was bit while playing golf last Thursday by a venomous snake that had been coiled up in some small brush.
The former sheriff said the snake had not rattled its tail and Napier hadn't detected the animal before he felt the bite to his hand. Napier additionally posted some photos of his swollen hand taken from a hospital room.
"This is an extremely painful injury. I never thought it would happen to me. I am very, very careful. Please be hyper aware," Napier wrote on his Facebook page.
