LOWVILLE, N.Y. (WWTI) - Lewis County Public Health has announced that a skunk in the town of Lowville has tested positive for rabies.

The county's public health department made the announcement late Monday morning. According to the county officials, there was no human contact with the animal. However, two animals were exposed, but only needed a rabies booster because they were current with their vaccinations.

Public Health reminds all county residents and those that visit the area that rabies is a very serious and deadly disease affecting the central nervous system.

The disease can be transmitted from infected animals to humans if they are exposed to the saliva or nervous tissue of a rabid animal through a bite or scratch. Lewis County Public Health also reminded the public about the da
