CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A 28-year-old man is facing charges after he allegedly attacked a woman and her child with a hammer over the weekend in Cranston.

Officers responding to an apartment complex on Dyer Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Saturday found the two victims with injuries to their faces and heads, according to Cranston police.

Both were taken to the hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unknown.

A witness told police they saw the suspect walk away with a hammer in his hand and enter one of the apartment buildings.

Officers went into the building and found a man who matched the suspect's description. He was later identified as Rashad Talley.

When asked if he did it, police said Talley responded with, "Of course." He was arrested and charged with assault with a dangerous weap
