WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WREX) — A Rockford man will spend a decade in state prison after selling fentanyl that ended up in the hands of a McHenry County man who later overdosed on the drugs.

31-year-old Markeeon L. Neal was sentenced to ten years in state prison after pleading guilty to a felony charge of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance, according to a release from the McHenry County State's Attorney's Office.

The charge stems from the death of a Crystal Lake, Ill. man in March 2024. The man died from an overdose of fentanyl, which Crystal Lake Police found was given to him by someone who bought the drugs from Neal.

After the negotiated guilty plea, Judge Mark R. Gerhardt handed down a 10-year sentence which will be followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release once Neal is re
