A movie based on the NBA drafting Kobe Bryant is reportedly in the works.

Sources tell Variety that Warner Bros. Pictures has received a spec script about Bryant joining the Los Angeles Lakers during the 1996 NBA Draft and is from the point of view of New Jersey Nets general manager John Nash and coach John Calipari.

The two men had the eighth pick in the draft and looked to choose the then 17-year-old Bryant, fresh out of high school. However, he ended up being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets as the 13th pick. The Lakers then traded center Vlade Divac for Bryant.

Of course, the rest is NBA history, as Bryant played 20 years with the organization and won five championships.
