CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Fall is one of the most beautiful times of the year in North Carolina, and we’re expecting our first real preview of it this week.

So, when can we expect our fall foliage to peak?

Mark your calendars: peak color in the mountains on average happens in mid to late October with the highest elevations peaking earlier in the month. If you want something more exact, Explore Fall 's latest map predicts peak fall color on Oct. 22 in the North Carolina mountains.

Here in the Charlotte area, we’re always a little behind. Peak color typically arrives in early November, right around Nov. 3.
