HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The City of Hendersonville is urging residents to help manage unowned graveyards in the city.
You've heard of adopt-a-street or adopt-a-highway, but now there's adopt-a-cemetery.
The program is part of a larger push to get grave site volunteers. The mayor said there has been some response, but not enough to cover all six cemeteries they need help with.
Mayor Jamie Clary told News 2 all of the unowned graveyards in the city sit near residential areas, so it's important to maintain them for property values.
More importantly, keeping the sites clean helps to honor those who have passed.
Clary told News 2 the city has too many spaces to upkeep, like parks and roads, so taking on these cemeteries would be too much on their plate.
