JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. (WWTI) - The National Weather Service is telling people to avoid swimming at Jefferson County beaches.

The NWS issued a Beach Hazards Statement on Monday for beaches in Jefferson, Oswego, Wayne, Monroe and Northern Cayuga counties.

The alert means that there could be strong currents and hazardous swimming conditions.

The weather service said the alert is slated to last until 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.
