PITTSBURGH (WTAJ) -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have parted ways with punter Cameron Johnston, paving the way for Corliss Waitman, yet again.

The Steelers signed Johnston to a three-year, $9 million contract last March. He booted two balls before suffering a season-ending injury in week one. The Steelers later signed Waitman, who played two games for the team in 2021, as his replacement. Waitman punted for Pittsburgh throughout the rest of 2024.

It's Waitman's third stint with the team after he spent 2020 on the Steelers' preseason roster, and was signed in 2021 and 2024 during the year. Last season, he averaged 46.4 yards per punt.

The 30-year-old punter is from Belgium and played college ball at South Alabama. He went undrafted in 2020 and has played all over the NFL. In 2022, the Edmont
