PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Rhode Island is experiencing the same voter registration shifts that have alarmed Democrats nationwide, with Republicans gaining 23,000 registered voters since 2018 while Democrats have lost 18,000, according to state data.
The changes mirror a national trend documented in a widely discussed New York Times analysis last week that found Democrats losing ground to Republicans in all 30 states which track voter registration by party. The shift totals 4.5 million voters nationwide toward the GOP between 2020 and 2024, according to The Times.
