COMPTON – One person was killed Monday in a two-vehicle collision on the Artesia (91) Freeway in Compton.
California Highway Patrol officers were called at 12:08 a.m. Monday to the eastbound freeway and the Alameda Street exit where they found that one of the vehicles involved in the collision had driven off the freeway with several victims inside and that the vehicle wound up on its roof, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia told City News Service.
Responding Compton Fire Department paramedics worked for several minutes to free the victims.
One person — whose name, age or gender were not immediately known — was pronounced dead at the scene.
The CHP closed all lanes of the eastbound freeway while they investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
