MINNEAPOLIS — State Sen. John Hoffman electrified party leaders on Monday at the Democratic National Committee's summer meeting in Minneapolis, marking his first in-person public appearance since he was shot nine times on June 14.

Hoffman appeared strong and energetic as he delivered a 10-minute speech to Democratic colleagues, at one point even joking about the rod in one of his left fingers. However, the state legislator from Champlin also struck a somber and serious tone, reflecting on the shooting that targeted his family and resulted in the assassination of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark on the same morning.
