BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- Friday's fatal bus crash in Pembroke has brought renewed attention to a growing issue: the shortage of volunteer firefighters—especially in rural communities.

WIVB News 4 spoke with David Olsen, a volunteer firefighter with the Indian Falls Fire Department. Olsen was one of the many first responders who helped save lives that day. However, he and many others worry help may not be this accessible in the future.

“I don't think there's a single fire company or organization in this town, region, state, or country that will turn away new members,” said Dave Morales with the Getzville Fire Department.
