DULUTH, Minn. – Local governments, non-profits, and Tribal governments can officially apply for urban and community forest grants of up to $500,000 from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The two grants total $12 million, making this the largest grant amount since the beginning of the DNR’s urban and community forest grant programs. The funds will be used to help communities throughout the state plant new trees, treat or remove infested trees, and restore, protect, and maintain urban forested areas.

“Having trees in our cities and in urban spaces are incredibly important,” said Mark Kruse, project specialist, Urban Community Forestry.
