MAYFIELD – Jason Howell, R-Murray, praised first responders and school staff Monday for how they handled the aftermath of a shooting last Friday during the season opening football game at Mayfield High School .

The shooting occurred Friday night in the parking lot of Mayfield’s War Memorial Stadium during the Graves County High School vs. Mayfield High School football game, otherwise known as Battle of the Birds. The Mayfield Police Department said a 14-year-old from Fulton shot an 18-year-old from Farmington following a fight in a parking area during the fourth quarter. The victim sustained serious injuries to his arm and upper torso, and was transported to a Nashville hospital. The teen suspect has been charged with first-degree assault.
