MARQUETTE — It appears it will be challenging for Upper Peninsula cross country teams to catch Marquette again this season.

The Sentinels swept both ends of Wildcat Open here Friday with the boys placing five in the top seven and scoring 20 points. Ishpeming Westwood edged Negaunee 62-68 for the runner-up spot. Manistique took sixth with 139.

Marquette’s girls placed all their runners in the top 12 and tallied 25 points. They were followed by Negaunee 66, Kingsford 82 and Stephenson 83.

Sentinels’ senior Rorik Holmquist won the 3.1-mile race in 16:34.2, followed by classmate Peter Argeropoulos at 16:49.3 and Negaunee senior Henry Plummer (17:38.8).
