A man who identified himself as Jay Carey, a U.S. Army combat veteran and Bronze Star recipient who served for 22 years, was arrested outside of the White House Monday after lighting an American flag on fire.
Carey told a small crowd gathered around him that he had fought for their right to freedom of expression, and he was burning the American flag to protest Donald Trump's executive order allowing Attorney General Pam Bondi to "vigorously prosecute those who violate our laws in ways that involve desecrating the American Flag."
"No President can make a law period, no Congress can make a law infringing on First Amendment rights," Carey told the crowd through a megaphone. "I'm burning this flag as a protest to that illegal fascist president that sits in that house."
