AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The start of hunting season is coming up and many people will be purchasing supplies, licenses and work to map out their hunting positions.
There have been some new update for hunting in the Panhandle.
Game Warden Roper Smith says that one of the changes is the elimination of the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) zones.
Officials say the zones were put into place to monitor and manage CWD in local deer.
After reviewing the zones, it was decided not to be useful.
“We’re not going to stop it, it’s like the flu or a virus. These deer are going to keep migrating and pushing, so it’s going to keep spreading,” said Smith.
CWD zones will still appear online but it will not be mandatory to have your deer checked.
