HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - Senator Richard Blumenthal is set to announce a formal investigation into ICE on Tuesday, citing recent incidents involving what he calls “abusive and unlawful” practices.

The announcement is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Hartford.

As the Ranking Member of the Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (PSI), Blumenthal says the inquiry will focus on ICE’s use of force during arrests, its detention of U.S. citizens, and how the agency manages its social media accounts.

Blumenthal pointed to the recent alleged targeting of State Representative Corey Paris by ICE as a key example of the need for federal scrutiny.

He also referenced violent encounters involving ICE officers as further cause for concern.
