AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - River Road ISD and Dalhart ISD are making steps to combat an ongoing diagnostician shortage.

Diagnosticians play the vital role in testing students of all abilities for special education plans and classes.

River Road ISD Assistant Superintendent Andy Nies says diagnosticians are required to have a Masters’ degree and a sign salary contracts comparable to teachers.

This can make it hard for some school districts to find diagnosticians to stay at the district.

Nies says River Road ISD has been fortunate enough to keep its two diagnosticians who were former teachers for five plus years.
