The National Weather Service is predicting rising rivers Tuesday and about half an inch of rain later in the week.
As of Monday afternoon, Fairbanks had received approximately 1.52 inches of rain over three days. While August is typically rainy, it’s unusual to see nearly a normal month’s amount of rain in such a short period, meteorologist Bobby Bianco said.
“There have been low pressure systems going up the West Coast with subtropical moisture along with it,” Bianco said. “Everyone has been getting rain except for Tok and Northway.”
So far this month, Fairbanks has received about 0.41 inches more rain than the average August total of 1.7 inches.
