WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) - The Wythe County Sheriff's Office initiated a pursuit after a white Dodge refused to pull over on Monday, August 25, and caused safety issues.

According to officers, a white Dodge Hellcat was traveling on Interstate 81 without headlights, and they attempted to pull the car over.

Officials say the driver refused to pull over and started accelerating at a high speed heading north on Interstate 77.

The driver entered the Big Walker Mountain Tunnel at high speeds while workers were in the area, which caused extreme risks to public safety, officials say.

Virginia State Police assisted in the incident, and the pursuit continued to Bland County. Police say the car crashed into a guardrail at the 64-mile marker.
