An Andrew resident has passed away after being hit by an unknown vehicle in a hit and run near Brooks Alberta, a city to the east of Calgary.

On August 25 shortly after 4 in the morning, Brooks RCMP responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Highway 1 near Range Road 131.

Upon arrival, a damaged vehicle was located with the doors open with a deceased individual located on the side of the road. Initial investigations determined that the deceased hit an animal and was checking on his vehicle when he was struck by another vehicle driving on the highway.

The vehicle that hit the man did not remain on scene.

The deceased was identified as a 30-year-old male resident of Andrew. The RCMP send their condolences to the friends and family of the deceased.
