The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service is asking the public for information regarding an assault that occurred Sunday near the baseball field on Fort Hope First Nation.

Police were made aware of the assault just before 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. An adult man had been assaulted and sustained injuries consistent with a stabbing, police say. The victim was brought to the community nursing station and later to the hospital in Thunder Bay for further evaluation and treatment of his injuries. His injuries are believed to be serious.

According to police, the attacker is an adult male who was dressed in black and wearing a ski mask. The suspect approached the victim at about 3 a.m. in the baseball field near a trail along the third-base line.
